Geography 3496

Geography 3496 is a Laurentian University course being taught Sept-Dec.2008 by Sue Heffernan.

This course looks at the people who live in Northern Canada and their experiences as they live in the north (or as they move there for the first time!). Some of the aspects/themes of the course are governance structures, population change, infrastructure, industrial growth and decline, and services. The course also looks at the influence of World War Two and the Cold War on communities and infrastructure in the north.

Three communities will provide examples of the course themes: Two are Subarctic (Moosonee and Ignace) and one is Arctic (Arviat). Other communities that will be referenced include Faro,Yukon and Pine Point, NWT.
