The first class next Thursday (Sept 10th) will run from 2:30 to 4:30. Pls bring the textbook (lots in the bookstore now).
For those of you with part-time jobs, the class on Sept.24th is cancelled.I will offer some hours as make-up later in the term.
Just reading an article on the DEW Line construction from "Engineering and Contract Record", dated August 1957. Lots of detail about severe weather and permafrost issues, but one line caught my attention:
"Sanitary and waste disposal was accomplished across DEW using oil drums hauled away to a dump or out on the ice to be lost in the breakup."
Wow!
We'll talk about this kind of thing in class, plus the other two radar lines built across Canada, and why Canada felt it needed radar bases way back then.
