Northern Characteristics???

So, the first class is done, and I have to say I was really impressed how quickly people got into groups to discuss northern characteristics and potential team projects.
This week (Thursday the 17th) we'll be briefly going back to "Northern Characteristics" to answer the question "Now that you've read Chapter One of the textbook, do you still feel the same about the one that didn't quite fit(or was wrong)?"

But we'll start class with the maps from last week (five people had P.E.I mixed up with Anticosti Island...I guess that's almost like a summer/jetlag affect..), and I saw the same thing as last year: a few people thought that "big island" out in the Atlantic was New Brunswick (instead of Nfld). But the good news--most maps were clear, detailed and correct. The farthest north that students have been includes Dawson City and the tip of Newfoundland!!

We're also going to look a bit more at format for your Issue Notes next Thursday and then do Chapter Two of the text on Physical Characteristics (think "permafrost"!). Plus we will do a walking tour of Canada from 1961 to now--I'll explain at class.
See you on Thursday. Plan on 2:30 to 5:30 this week.
