Resource Towns or Ghost Towns

In this week's class we will look at three very different communities: Faro, Yukon; Ignace, Ontario; and Pine Point, NWT.

One of these communities doesn't exist anymore. And yet it was a "planned community". We will look at the sketches of the area and where the school, clinic and the subdivisions were constructed. All that is left now is the pavement.

Why do some communities survive a mine closure and some don't ? The question of the day...or of the decade..

The lecture for this Thursday will focus on the highlights from Chapters 5 and 6 of the class text. What that means is that we will also look at pipelines, diamond mines, and other megaprojects.
See you on Thursday....
